S&D MRS Annual Exhibition

The S&D MRS (Shepton and District Model Railway Society) will again be holding its 37th annual exhibition in June. It will be open Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June in our new location, Doulting Village Hall (just off the A361 some 2 miles to the east of Shepton Mallet towards Frome).

There will again be a good selection of exhibition layouts, mostly local, and traders. There should be plenty of opportunity to pick up S&DJR items.

The S&DMRS is hoping during the weekend to debut its 4mm model based on Binegar; the layout will be available for viewing in the Society’s Cranmore clubhouse. The layout has been under construction for some time but progress has been hampered by the lack of a proper clubhouse. A member was good enough to loan his shed for several years but the acquisition last year of a more substantial structure alongside the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore has allowed progress to accelerate. Yes we know Cranmore was on the Grimy Wet and Rusty and therefore the wrong railway but if the Trust can work with the WSR we can work with the ESR!

So why not make a day of it and combine the S&D Model Railway Exhibition, a visit to the East Somerset Railway and maybe even dinner at the Poachers Pocket?  Perhaps even be more ambitious and combine it with a little surveying of the SDJR line? Charlton Viaduct is still standing and Midsomer Norton is only 20 minutes away. A weekend in June in the Mendips seems quite attractive as I write in February with snow on the ground.
