Castle Corfe Southern OO Scale
Castle Corfe is a Southern Region layout set in the 1950s. The track plan is similar to Swanage in mirror image. The locality is more than hinted at by its fictitious (just) name. The layout was recently upgraded by the S&DMRS and converted to DCC. As such it is the Club’s first venture into DCC and has provided a useful learning experience. In an earlier incarnation the layout had certain Somerset cider farm connections but it is now back on the Isle of Purbeck! Tourism remains a key industry with plenty of holiday traffic. But fishing, farming and quarrying are also important and justify some appropriate goods stock. The rolling stock is largely RTR and takes full advantage of the recent improvement in the range of Southern locos and rolling stock available from Hornby in particular. So Drummond T9s and M7s are often in evidence. At the club room at the East Somerset Railway
Binegar Somerset and Dorset OO Scale
Binegar is our latest layout of the Somerset and Dorset Railway, being the second highest station on the line
The layout is based in the 1950/60’s., We have incorporated the transfer shed and narrow gauge line to Oakhill Brewery at Oakhill. This line shut circa 1920’s.
An unusual movement at Binegar was the transfer of calves to Scotland and Highland calves returning to Wincanton. The transfer shed is now two houses and are named after the two engines Mendip and Oakhill.
Binegar railway station opened on 20 July 1874. The station consisted of two platforms, with a building on the down platform. There was a substantial goods yard with two sheds and sidings, controlled from a 24 lever signal box.
The station closed to goods in 1963: passenger services were withdrawn when the SDJR closed on 7 March 1966.
Hemlock GWR OO
Hemlock is based on the station at Hemyock, at the terminus of the Culm Valley Railway in Devon. The track plan is based around that of the 1930’s, when milk was the main traffic.
Milk tankers were despatched from Hemyock to Tiverton Junction, where they were attached to various passenger and parcels trains for onwards movement.
For exhibition purposes, we have used some modellers’ licence, and are running a little more modern rolling stock, motive power being mainly GWR 45XX and GWR 14XX engines.
The layout has no timetable at the moment, as Hemyock had very few train movements during per day; operators have to be just a little innovative.
Joe Lock Trade stand
Joe Lock has been trading in good second-hand model railways for nineteen years, and offers a complete selection of items from track, small accessories and control equipment through to wagons, coaches and locomotives. Joe is a member of the Hornby Railway Collectors' Association and a Bluebell Railway member. Please take time to view what is on display and do not be afraid to ask any questions. He is very interested in buying model railways of any age, gauge or amount; so if you have anything to sell or part exchange, please ask him for advice. Phone 01992 467967.
Glen Ogle –Hugh Barr N Scale

This layout setting is the west of Scotland and has similar features to Glen Ogle which is an actual glen and is North West of Lochearnhead at the edge of the Trossachs in Scotland. The railway line ran from Lochearnhead through Glen Ogle to Killin on Loch Tay and had a viaduct. The year of this layout is 1963 when both Steam and Diesel engines were in service. The layout is 8ft x 4ft and has 3 continuous running tracks (2 at ground level and one on the upper level which includes the mountain). This is my first model layout and has been constructed over 3 years from 2008 – 2011.
Tormouth Quay Graham Bean OO Scale
Originally intended as nothing more than an up-market test track, it took on a life of its own and is gradually becoming a fully-featured mini “shunting-plank” layout. It depicts the slowly-decaying dockside area of a small coastal town sometime between the early 1950s and late 1960s. Not based on any specific prototype, it draws inspiration from Weymouth, Plymouth, Looe, Bristol etc.
Track is hand-built, as are most of the locos and rolling stock. Buildings are from a variety of sources, but mainly scratch-built, card-framed with suitable facings.
A Roco “Multimaus” DCC system, “Tortoise” slow-motion point motors and “Sprat & Winkle” magnetic couplings take care of the operational aspects.
Please stop and chat – we don’t usually bite and sometimes we’re almost normal!
Caeau Uchaf – Barnhill MRC OO Scale
The time period modelled is roughly 1958 to 1968 and thus some green diesel locomotives can be seen hauling trains as well as the steam locomotives of the time.
Caeau Uchaf is a fictitious town sited on the South Wales coast some thirty miles west of Swansea. Although it is a Western Region station a number of Midland Region trains, both passenger and freight, can be seen coming via a direct line from Shrewsbury.
A new Oil terminal is being built close by in a deep water harbour, but at this time only a small branch line links this to the station. Other branch lines from the valleys and coast around also terminate at Caeau Uchaf and thus a wide variety of passenger, coal, mineral, livestock and general goods trains can be seen.
All track & point work is PECO 100. Seep motors are used for operating the points and electric uncouplers ensure as little handling as possible

Please do not hesitate to take photographs of any part of the layout. We hope you have enjoyed watching our display and if you have any questions, please ask
Longmoor - by Ray Oliver N Scale
This layout takes its inspiration from the Longmoor Military railway, but can only give an impression of such a large and wonderful piece of history. Even in N gauge seventy miles of sidings squashed into eight miles distance and two and a half miles width would take up 227 x 86 feet.
The left hand end of the layout represents Oakhanger, the first station after the interchange at Bordon. The middle part of the layout shows some of the sidings, and the right hand end shows the main camp workshops and barracks.
Some of the buildings, which are gleaned from photographs, are representations rather than true scale
Abigrace Halt T Scale
This layout is to show that you don’t need a large loft to have a layout, just a case 18 ¼ X 13 ½ inches. It has an oval track 14 ½ X 9 ½ inches, the halt has a few passengers on the platform waiting for the train, a few houses and farm animals, horses and riders.
A ‘built for fun’ layout.
This is T gauge 1 X 450 so please look hard or you will miss it.
Dotcom Railroad HO Scale
Dotcom Railroad is an HO gauge layout built inside a computer monitor, it has an oval track with a train from the old west running. A just for layout, it makes a change from emails and ebay on your computer.
Corris – Rod Allcock OO Scale
The Corris Railway was the first narrow Gauge railway in Mid-Wales. Built originally in 1859 as a 2' 3" gauge horse-hauled tramroad, steam locomotives arrived in 1878 and passengers were carried from 1883 to 1930. The Railway closed in 1948 and was dismantled soon afterwards.
The layout is a continuous run (rear obscured) depicting Corris Station in 1930, just after GWR takeover but before cessation of passenger services.
Work still remains to be done.
Tony Willcock Trade Stand
Has a selection of second hand OO gauge rolling stock and locomotives.
Redford Junction Bognor Regis MRC 3 MMScale
Redford Junction is an end to end layout based on a proposed extension from the London & Brighton South Coast and London & South Western Region line between Midhurst and Haslemere in the Southern Region of British Railways.
Vehicles are reminiscent of the 1960s and railway stock is typical of the post nationalisation period and includes steam and electric prototypes of the era.
The stock on show is either kit or scratch built and represent those items that would have been seen operating on the line had it been built.
Toad Creek – John Spratley N Scale
Started as a test track thirty years ago and just grew into a permanent layout. It represents a small rural station between the 1940/50s American railroad somewhere in the south east of the USA. A small freight yard and a branch line uphill to a quarry or mine. Small steam presence with the odd diesel.
Norman Brooks – Brookside Halt OO Scale
Brookside Halt is a fictitious layout anywhere in the country. It is a single line with no points.
The layout is a preserved line which means that anything can be ran. In the front is a field where there is a bus rally or vintage rally, all depends on Normand’s mind on the day.
Don’t be afraid to stop and chat because that’s what I do best.

Butts End – Paul Cook OO Scale
Butts End is a fictitious ‘OO’ end-to-end layout of a halt in the general area of the Western Region around the 1960’s. There is the occasional passenger train.
There is also a small goods yard which gives additional interesting train movement.
With a fiddle yard at each end the traffic through the halt can be viewed.
Dodileat Manor – Terry Jones OO Scale
The layout is based around ideas taken from Dodington House, near Chipping Sodbury, Longleat in Wiltshire and other similar estates. It represents a typical inland tourist attraction set in the grounds of a large Regency Manor House. It’s purpose is to show a collection of hand painted models of private hire coaches, which can cover the period from the mid 1970’s to the present day. The coaches on show will be changed at regular intervals and the layout also hosts some motorised buses and coaches, using the Fallar guided system. A miniature railway runs around the lake and grounds, using z-gauge (6.5mm) to represent a 15”-gauge railway in OO scale. The bodies of the locos and rolling stock have all been scratch built or suitably modified, to give them the character of such a miniature railway.

DCC Train Automation - James Hudson N Scale
DCC Train Automation is a N gauge layout built to demo straight how you can control DCC without the use of computer control. But still get the slowing and acceleration of the train. Stopping in front of signals, with sounds and lights still in operation. The layout is out of my mind but has a European look and feel. We run six trains on a 9foot x 2 foot layout. The layout is made up of three different levels which are connected, via two Helix, at either end of the layout. Always something to look, at with working level crossing and road works. All in N gauge.
Grove Dale – Dave Lear N Scale
An imaginary modern image layout in ‘N’ gauge.
This layout is constructed on four boards and has two main lines, with passing loops at a full size station. A range of houses, bungalows and shops can be seen along with fire and ambulance stations, bus garage and large Tesco depot. Look out for the Mercedes Garage and showroom. A large goods and fiddle yard can be viewed from the front of the layout to give maximum interest.
Ffestiniog Railway Display
Ffestiniog Railway is a premier narrow gauge railway in the country and runs from the Cambrian Coast at Portmadog inland to the slate mountain town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, running through farmland, small towns, hills and spectacular mountain scenery on the way.
In October 2010 our sister railway, the Welsh Highland, ran the first through trains from Caenarfon to Portmadog using the level crossing with the standard gauge Cambrian line and the tram section through the streets of Portmadog. Since then service and special trains have also run on this section thus allowing passengers to travel the full length of this remarkable railway
Please ask for further details of both lines.
